Every participant gets their very own chavruta (a study partner) on any Jewish topic they choose. Partners study together (or chat) for about 30 minutes a week, usually by phone. What you learn is up to you and can change over time. There are no rules.
When you register, you get asked a bunch of questions about your interests, personality, and availability. This information will let us know what type of partner would be best for you. It should only take 2-3 minutes to complete the questionnaire.
When you’re done, we’ll reach out to a few people that match your criteria, and tell them how awesome you are! As soon as one of them replies, we’ll schedule your first call together. (Don’t worry, we’ll only schedule the call for a time that works for you.)
It may take us a few minutes to find you a partner, or up to several weeks. It all depends on how many partners match your profile. If the process is taking too long, you can always go in and adjust your preferences at any time. Doing so may speed up the time it takes you to get matched.
We operate a two-sided platform which pairs learners who want to know more with volunteer mentors who match their interests, personality, and level of knowledge. Men and women with a day school, yeshiva, or an advanced Jewish education will generally sign up as mentors.
Sometimes, after mastering a particular subject, students may opt to serve as mentors as well. We think that’s pretty awesome!
Welcome to the club — most participants don’t have a specific topic or text in mind when they join. Some people know what they want to study, but most just want to know more and don’t know where to begin. Others know which topics interest them but need some guidance on how to get started. That’s where our digital library comes in. Click on library.partnersintorah.org, and you can preview recommended books on a variety of topics. Together with your study partner, you’ll come up with the material that’s best for the two of you.
You’ll always be just a click away from our dedicated support team. They can better understand your goals and help find you a better match. Before you make a change though, we suggest you give it a few tries. It’s like a first date — it sometimes doesn’t feel right, but then, things start to click. If you’re pretty sure it won’t work with your partner, especially if there’s something concerning, please contact our support team right away.
